The camp will run on July 2 - 3, 5-6, and 9 - 13 (nine days) on the campus of First Presbyterian School, DeLand. We are accepting registrations from graduated 4th through graduated 7th graders who want to delve into writing fiction, poetry, and plays. The camp runs from 9am to 3pm each day (bring a bag lunch), and the cost is $300 for all nine days.
The theme for this year's camp is Making Movies with Words. The focus will be on writing in a way that creates movies in readers' minds with fiction, poetry, and play writing and screenwriting.
The instructors:
David Finkle is a National Board Certified Middle School Language Arts teacher who has written the books Making My Escape, Writing Extraordinary Essays, Teaching Students to Make Writing Visual and Vivid, and, with his son Christopher, Portents and Portals. He is also the cartoonist of the Daytona Beach News-Journal comic strip, Mr. Fitz.
Andrea Finkle is a teacher, actress, and writer. She is just completing her 5th year in the world of middle school after teaching as an adjunct writing instructor at the community college level. A lifelong lover of words and books her greatest wish is to pass that love on to the next generation and to keep the love of reading and writing alive for all ages.
Darlene J. Stewart is a director, teacher, and writer. Currently molding young minds at St. Barnabas Episcopal school, she is consistently in demand for drama and writing camps for young people. She has written numerous scripts that have been produced throughout Florida. With an MA in directing from Northwestern University, Darlene has been actively involved in theater for young people for over 30 years.
